Building self worth in children & praising their behavior (May 30)
May 30 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm| Free
Community Based Education in Nurturing Parenting is an 8 session series aimed at teaching parents the basic philosophy and practices of Nurturing Parenting in raising healthy, caring children, and the importance of making time to Nurture themselves.
This 4th lesson of the 8 lesson series examines how parents can help to build self worth in their children. “Self Worth” is the value that we give all parts that make up our identity. This can include thoughts, feelings, beliefs, physical appearance, capabilities and many more.
Topics that will be further explored include:
• The three areas responsible for helping children develop self worth
• How labels can help or hurt a child’s self worth
• 10 ways to improve your child’s self worth
Many conversations between parents and children can often include “no” or “why did you do that?” or “go to your room”. This lesson will explore the benefits of using praise and will cover the topics below:
• The difference between praise for “doing” and praise for “being”
• Misconceptions about using praise
• Promoting self praise in children
Participants will engage in brainstorming, discussion questions, role plays and self reflection. Take home information sheets are provided for participants to continue their journey to become a more Nurturing Parent.
A light meal will be provided and bus tickets are available upon request.
