Providing a continuum of wrap-around support because everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, and valued.
The Older Adult Crisis Stabilization Outreach Team (OASCOT) plays a crucial role in supporting Calgary’s Crisis Response System by providing older adults (55+) experiencing homelessness, mental health and addiction challenges, and complex needs with the necessary supports that allow them to transition to appropriate housing with wrap-around services that create the conditions to age well in the community.
Our dedicated team is committed to connecting older adults to non-medical supports and other social determinants of health that contribute to overall well-being and healthy aging. We collaborate with other systems, such as health services and the justice system, to reduce the involvement of police and/or mobile crisis response teams.
What to expect?
In partnership with Calgary Police Service, Alberta Health Services, and other community partners, an OASCOT Outreach worker connects older adults to non-medical supports and assists them in accessing services and resources to help improve their circumstances, become more financially independent, and increase their ability to age well in the community.
Who does OASCOT support?
The Older Adult Crisis Stabilization Outreach Team supports older adults aged 55+ who have been identified with an elevated level of risk and require support to reduce involvement with the Calgary Police Service or mobile crisis teams.
How does someone access this support?
Individuals supported by the Older Adult Crisis Stabilization Outreach Team are identified by partners, The Way In Network or at Action Table Calgary as meeting the ‘acutely elevated risk’ threshold. This threshold indicates that imminent risk of serious harm to individuals, families, or the community requires immediate, coordinated support to mitigate crises and prevent escalation.
Individuals cannot self refer themselves to the Older Adult Crisis Stabilization Outreach Team at this time.
