Getting older can come with its own set of unique challenges.
You may feel the loss of meaningful roles within family and community, declining health and mobility, isolation, strained family relationships, or worry about the future.
Carya’s Older Adult Counselling program provides brief counselling sessions in a variety of locations across Calgary to older adults (65+) facing barriers accessing mental health services and support. Our therapists are well-acquainted with the unique needs and challenges older adults face and provide the tools needed to improve their overall quality of life and well-being.
What can I expect?
In your first session, our therapists will listen and learn about what is important to you and will work with you to develop a customized approach to help make your goals actionable. Counselling at Carya is offered in brief sessions, which means you will meet with your therapist for about 8 – 10 sessions.
Your therapist will provide support and can help you co-learn about things such as:
- Communicating with partners and your adult children
- Coping strategies for stress, depression, and anxiety
- Understanding and managing emotions
- Developing problem-solving skills
- Connecting with your community for natural support networks
Is Older Adult Counselling for me?
This program provides support to older adults experiencing challenges managing the distress in their lives and relationships that are beginning to feel unmanageable.
Is there a cost?
Carya provides barrier-free counselling services which are subsidized to ensure cost is never prohibitive. Whether you prefer in-person sessions, online consultations, or phone appointments, our intake department and your therapist will guide you through the process, ensuring you receive the support you need without added financial stress.

If you’re in need of support, contact our intake team at 403-205-5244.
I was provided with someone to talk with – a therapist – about issues I was dealing with. They also provided me with someone who could navigate the senior housing world in Calgary. Without Carya, I would have had no one else to help.
