carya Welcomes Theresa Watson as New Interim CEO

February 1, 2021

The carya Board of Directors is pleased to introduce Theresa Watson as our new Interim CEO.

Theresa has a longstanding connection to carya. She was a donor and volunteer for several years before joining our Board, serving as chair of Governance Committee. Her volunteer work in our community includes service with the United Way, leading organizational campaigns and representing public sector agencies on the United Way cabinet.

In addition, Theresa has significant executive leadership experience. She was President of T.L. Watson & Associates Inc, an engineering consulting firm in the oil and gas sector. She currently sits as a counsellor for APEGA and was a board member with the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB). While at the ERCB, she chaired the Audit and Finance Committee and led the organization in modernizing their enterprise risk management system. Theresa has a chemical engineering degree from McGill University and an MBA and Law degree from the University of Calgary.

We are confident that Theresa’s leadership, experience, and commitment to carya will ensure a successful transition while we search for a permanent CEO. carya has a long history of being an impactful and valued part of our community, and we know that under Theresa’s leadership we will continue to build on the exceptional work we’ve been doing for the last 110 years.

We extend our sincere thanks to outgoing CEO Monique Auffrey for the contributions she made to carya during her time with our agency. We look forward to what is to come as we continue our work of building strong families and communities for generations.
