Helping families develop healthy connection and trust throughout the permanency placement process.
Becoming a new family unit can be challenging. Carya‘s Adoption Kinship Counselling offers therapeutic support to children and their families in various stages of the legal permanency process, including adoption or private guardianship. The therapeutic interventions serve families by aiming to increase emotional health, self-esteem and security within the parent-child relationship. The therapeutic approach is based on child development, attachment, trauma and grief and loss.
What to expect?
Our specially trained counsellors assist families through the entire adoption process and provide ongoing support throughout the child’s development, including:
- During the pre-placement process
- In transitioning the child into the adoptive home
- With on-going support throughout the child’s development
Is Adoption Kinship Counselling for me?
Carya’s Adoption Kinship Counselling supports parents/caregivers and children from newborn to 22 years of age who have been united through the public system.

Is there a cost?
This program is funded by Calgary and Area Child and Family Services and is provided free of charge to kinship parents and adoptive families who are adopting within the public system or who currently qualify for post-adoptive services.
