In celebration of International Day of Older Persons on October 1, carya is proud to share a new resource from the Calgary Missing Older Adult Resource Network.
With 15 older adults being reported missing each month in Calgary, this Resource Guide will help at-risk individuals and their families prevent and prepare.
The guide represents a coordinated community response to the increasing number of missing older adults, and was developed by nine Calgary organizations and partners. The Calgary Missing Older Adult Resource Network brings carya together with the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary, Alberta Health Services, Calgary Fire Department, the Kerby Centre, Jewish Family Services, Calgary Chinese Elderly Citizens Association, City of Calgary Age Friendly Strategy, and the Calgary Police Service.
The Calgary Missing Older Adult Resource Network aims to create public awareness about vulnerable older adults, and available resources that will help find them. The number of older adults who go missing is high, and is likely to increase as people choose to age-in place. This network is working to ensure response systems are efficient and coordinated, and that there are strategies in place to assist authorities in finding missing older adults.
