We’re Creating a Community Hub in East Village, and We Need Your Help

Please join us in creating an inclusive and healthy community for residents of East Village and beyond.

After almost 110 years of creating stronger families and communities in Calgary, carya knows a thing or two about the power of community gathering spaces. Bringing people together in one place is the key to building belonging, relationships and well-being, as well as strong, vital neighbourhoods.

That’s why we’re so excited to share the details of our most ambitious project ever — the construction of Village Commons. Our new space is scheduled to open its doors in the fall of 2020!

carya’s East Village hub will offer a wide range of new and existing programs in flexible spaces for community meetings, wellness classes, financial planning and empowerment. We’re including a new art studio, family counselling centre, industrial-sized community kitchen and more.

carya was chosen to develop this community space because we have a proud record of offering successful intergenerational programming throughout Calgary. East Village is a vibrant and rapidly growing community with several vulnerable population groups, including many seniors. It needs a community hub where everyone can meet and connect.

Across Canada, community kitchens are bringing health, belonging, and dignity to diverse populations, because food can be a transformative force, especially in underserved communities.

carya’s EVCH community kitchen will provide a range of programs, including:

  • Weekly meal preparation
  • Cooking classes for youth, children, families and seniors
  • Nutrition counselling, menu planning, food budgeting
  • Incubator start-ups: food and catering programs for entrepreneurs
  • Rental space for private parties, pop-up restaurant events, and more
Take a Seat at the Table

carya’s EVCH will provide programs and opportunities for everyone, from low income seniors, to thriving families and businesses. Our guiding principle is to help Calgarians find their inner potential and build flourishing relationships. That’s good for everyone in the community!

Donations will support new and existing programs at the carya EVCH, as well as enhancements to our space and kitchen.

Within the first five years in our new space, carya will connect with an estimated 24,000 residents from all ages and stages of life.

Please donate today to help ensure that all who live in East Village can enjoy a healthy, safe, inclusive and welcoming community life.
